Description

A two-task experimental element adapted from a prior cooperation key-pressing paradigm and administered under fNIRS hyperscanning. In HICT, "if |RTleft − RTright |<| R Tleft + RTright |/8, they could receive 1 point" rewarding synchronous key-pressing; in LICT, each participant pressed faster than a personally calibrated standard time derived from practice trials. Each round comprised 20 formal trials with per-trial fast/slow feedback, and neural data were collected from 21 channels covering PFC.R, DLPFC.L, DLPFC.R and TPJ.R.

Design Implications

Context

Requirements

  • Two NIRSport fNIRS systems; E-prime 3.0 stimulus control; participants refrained from verbal or non-verbal communication

Constraints

  • The fNIRS device's limited channel capacity confined the study to the PFC and the TPJ.R, and the authors note the generalizability of the findings may be limited because real-world cooperative situations are often more complex.

Target Learners

  • college students in same-gender dyads

Learning Goals

  • cooperative behavior and neural coordination during joint tasks
