Description¶
Each Factory Craft game level was designed by aligning game objectives, learning objectives, CSTA standards, and CT facets. For example, Lesson 2 asks students to "build various models of contraptions to produce objects and explore ways to build objects more efficiently with minimal waste," requiring data collection, analysis, pattern recognition, and modeling that reflect abstraction. The MFP lets students drag and drop inputs and outputs to construct contraption models used in Minecraft.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Alignment of game objectives, learning objectives, CSTA standards, and CT facets for each level, as displayed in Table 1
Constraints¶
- The pattern was implemented and evaluated only in a one-group exploratory summer-camp study with 31 students
Target Learners¶
- middle school students in grades 6-9
Learning Goals¶
- CT facets of decomposition, abstraction (data collection and analysis, pattern recognition, modeling), and debugging
Claims¶
- Gbl No Overall Ct Competency Gain [+M]
- Gbl Increased Ct Self Efficacy [+M]
