Twelve diabetes learning modules with QR-code micro-videos, Bluetooth feedback, and electronic heatmaps¶

Description¶
Before the intervention, "12 diabetes-specific learning modules aligned with Skinner's five principles were developed through a four-step process": content mapping of 25 core knowledge points and 10 procedural skills, difficulty sequencing into three to five sub-modules per unit (Level 1 recall to Level 5 application), material development, and pilot testing with 15 volunteer students. Materials included a micro-video library of 45 QR-code linked videos (2–5 min each) with embedded 'pause-and-respond' checkpoints, an interactive quiz bank of 150 multiple-choice questions with immediate Bluetooth vibration feedback, and electronic progress dashboards using heatmaps (green = mastered, yellow = partial, red = needs practice).
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Pilot testing to refine module difficulty and feedback timing; the final version achieved a < 15% error rate on the first attempt
- Clinical instructor training before implementation
Constraints¶
- The authors report that designing effective programmed teaching materials requires considerable time, effort, and professional resources, and materials require ongoing adjustment and optimisation
Target Learners¶
- undergraduate nursing students in endocrinology clinical rotations
Learning Goals¶
- diabetes knowledge across diagnosis, medication, diet, exercise, and complications
- insulin injection and blood glucose monitoring technique
Claims¶
- Skinners Programmed Instruction Five Principles [+M]
