Description¶
The dynamic model of educational effectiveness defines quality of teaching through eight teacher factors — "orientation, structuring, questioning, teaching-modelling, applications, management of time, teacher role in making the classroom a learning environment, and classroom assessment" — each measured on five dimensions (frequency, focus, stage, quality, differentiation). A longitudinal study grouped the resulting 42 teaching skills into five developmental stages ordered from basic direct-teaching routines to differentiation and the new teaching approach. This article uses those stage groupings as the content and sequencing basis of the DIA professional development programme.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Teachers must first be classified into a developmental stage via observation and Rasch analysis before stage-matched training can be delivered
Constraints¶
- The stage grouping was established for achievement in different subjects and for both cognitive and affective outcomes in prior EER studies cited by the article
Target Learners¶
- elementary school teachers
Learning Goals¶
- improving teaching skills associated with student achievement gains in mathematics
