Description

A short 4-week intervention delivered 15–20 minutes per day, four days per week, in small groups by trained interventionists, targeting the three NMAE features most frequently used in students' writing: "the copula, plurals, and past tense". The editing + dialect awareness variant added information on home (informal) versus school (formal) language through contrastive analysis, using "the metaphor of informal versus formal clothing" and literature with formal and informal speech. Both versions required the same implementation time and interventionists.

Design Implications

Context

  • Students who use at least one feature of NMAE on the DELV-S or in a written narrative
  • A trained interventionist and a quiet area of the school for small-group delivery

Constraints

  • Focused only on the three most frequently written NMAE features

Target Learners
