Description¶
The article defines the module as "a small teaching unit based on strategy of the self learning and individualization of the education", containing specific objectives, experiences and activities carried out in logical sequence, with progression paced by the self-learner. It grounds the approach in a systems view (inputs, processing, outputs), learner-centeredness, mastery with feedback after each small step, and pre-test/post-test gating. In the study, the authors developed modules for two seventh-grade science units on reproduction and organism classification.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Modules must state specific behavioral objectives, include pre-tests and post-tests with key answers, provide varied activities and resources, and require a mastery standard before moving to the next module
Constraints¶
- The article notes no universal teaching approach is best in all circumstances; module effectiveness is argued for the studied science units and grade level
Target Learners¶
- seventh-grade primary students in Jordan
Learning Goals¶
- acquisition and retention of scientific concepts (knowledge, comprehension, application levels)
Claims¶
- Modules Strategy Superior Direct Achievement Science [+M]
- Modules Strategy Superior Postponed Achievement Science [+M]
