Description¶
The intervention was a 30-minute plyometric training block "consisting of 20 different actions" applied after 20-minute warm-up and before volleyball practice, at "80-100% exercise intensity" with rest according to the full rest principle. Table 1 lists the 20 movements (e.g., Jump Squat, Airborne Heisman, Lunge Jump, Monster Truck Tire Leaps). Table 2 progresses the drills from low intensity (weeks 1-2, 2x10, 2x30sec rest) to high intensity (weeks 7-8, 4x10, 5x30sec), 3 days per week for 8 weeks.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Applied after warm-up, before volleyball training sessions, with rest according to the full rest principle
Constraints¶
- Tested only with male hearing-impaired volleyball players over 8 weeks at 3 days/90 min weekly volleyball training
Target Learners¶
- hearing-impaired volleyball players (male, mean age 19.08±1.62 experimental, 17.75±1.28 control)
Learning Goals¶
- static balance performance
- sporting performance in volleyball
Claims¶
- Plyometric Training Improved Static Balance Hearing Impaired Volleyball [+M]
- No significant between-group differences emerged for anterior posterior R, anterior posterior L or medial lateral L static balance parameters [~W]
- Within the experimental group, pretest-post-test gains were significant for overall stability R, overall stability L and anterior posterior L, but not for anterior posterior R or medial lateral R [+W]
Related Designs¶
- Four-exercise circuit treatment embedded after the warm-up in physical education lessons
- Progressive, varied balance circuit training with reactive postural challenges
