Description

OUSD delivers college courses on high school campuses during the school day, taught by Peralta instructors with an OUSD point person present—a dynamic some educators describe as team teaching. This "college comes to you" approach removes transportation barriers and integrates dual enrollment into students' daily schedules. During instruction the point person's presence provides students continuity and familiarity and gives instructors local knowledge and classroom management support. Point people scaffold students' agency, encouraging them to move from asking the point person questions to approaching the college instructor directly.

Design Implications

Context

Requirements

  • A funded point person (teaching line, second prep, assigned duty, or floating staff) assigned to each section, plus partnership agreements between district and college

Constraints

  • Point person engagement varies from active classroom management to a less active but available presence; the model depends on Peralta instructors traveling to high school campuses

Target Learners

  • High school students taking college courses, including students intimidated by or uncertain about approaching college instructors

Learning Goals

  • Engagement with college-level instruction and development of student agency and confidence
