Description¶
The article describes a reproducible pattern for developing OSCE stations: an interdisciplinary team develops stations based on Entrustable Professional Activities, refines them in structured workshops involving students and standardised patient programme representatives, and sets pass–fail cut scores using the modified Angoff method. Stations were designed so that "at least 50.0% of the stations had to include a practical clinical skill", and each station included at least one communication subtask. This pattern enabled rapid design of 34 stations by subject-matter experts.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Requires an interdisciplinary project team with medical education, examination design, and specialist clinical knowledge.
- Requires structured workshops with station developers, students, PJ-OSCE team members, and a standardised patient programme representative.
Constraints¶
- The article notes this was implemented within the specific curricular context of the HannibaL model curriculum at Hannover Medical School and the German medical licensing framework.
Target Learners¶
- Final-year undergraduate medical students prior to the Practical Year
Learning Goals¶
- Practical clinical skills
- Clinical decision-making
- Physician–patient communication
- Interprofessional communication
