Description¶
A compiled instructional package drawn from three writing textbooks (Zemach and Islam 2011; White 2006; Smally, Ruetten, and Kozyrev 2011) covering "freewriting, brainstorming, listing, clustering, and asking wh-questions during the planning stage of writing". The same materials were used for the conventional, web-based, and hybrid groups, with only the mode of input delivery differing. The package was reviewed by the researchers and two colleagues before use.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Review and revision of the materials by the researchers and two colleagues, with feedback from academic writing instructors
Constraints¶
- The control group's textbook (Paragraph Development) deliberately contained no prewriting strategies, so the package applies only to the experimental conditions
Target Learners¶
- Iranian EFL university sophomores
Learning Goals¶
- Idea generation and planning before writing
- Increased writing quantity (idea units)
