Description¶
The instructional sequence is a staged progression in which "The instructional sequence followed a five-stage progression aligned with experiential and spiral learning principles", with each stage systematically integrating VR and physical empowerment. Stage 1 introduces concepts and safety; Stage 2 familiarizes basic flat-welding skills with real-time parameter display and short hands-on sessions; Stage 3 applies horizontal welding with seam inspection against VR metrics; Stage 4 adds high-difficulty vertical tasks under authentic constraints; Stage 5 reviews longitudinal skill charts and conducts final real-condition performance tests that operationalize the transfer criterion.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Task complexity increases across stages while psychological regulation is maintained through feedback continuity between VR and physical practice
Constraints¶
- Developed and evaluated for welding training in a semester-long vocational course; transferability to other skill-intensive domains is proposed by the authors but not tested in this study
Target Learners¶
- vocational students without prior welding certification in a semester-long welding course
Learning Goals¶
- progressive welding skill acquisition across flat, horizontal, and vertical butt-joint tasks, culminating in transfer validation under real welding conditions
