Description

The article assembles a framework of principles that an intervention programme for young learners should rest on, arguing that "intervention programmes would only be effective if it is based on principles that can be pedagogically justified for young children". The framework spans nutrition and health, emotional factors, the teacher's role, language, culture, a constructivist approach to learning, perceptual abilities, motor development, learning through movement, concept forming, brain dominance, learning styles and multiple intelligences, music, memory, and television. It is used to design the ten-week Grade 1 intervention programme tested in the experiment.
