Four-level progression structure with indicative practice timeframes for competency development¶
Design · All designs
Evidence · no claims cited
Description¶
The framework structures competence progression as four levels, each with an indicative timeframe in haemophilia practice: "beginner, in practice for 0‐6 months (level 1)" through competent (over 6 months), proficient (18–24 months) and expert (a minimum of 3 years). The timeframes were derived by consensus at the HNA annual meeting where delegates ranked their own competence alongside time in practice. Each level's indicators let nurses gauge progression and identify areas for further education.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Indicators at each level provide a standard against which nurses can measure their personal practice
Constraints¶
- The article states the timeframes "should be interpreted cautiously" because experience gain depends on centre activity level and prior roles
Target Learners¶
- Haemophilia nurse specialists progressing from novice to advanced practice
Learning Goals¶
- Progressive development of specialist haemophilia nursing competence
