Description¶
The experimental lessons paired the PhET simulation with a structured student worksheet in three parts (planet characteristics, orbit/gravity problems, and Solar System exercises) solved in groups of four or five. "Students solved th e questions in the worksheet in-group discussion during performing laboratory activity", and students could change gravity variables to see planetary movement, then concluded from group discussion. The teacher guided students and reviewed material in class using the same simulation.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- A prepared worksheet whose problems are designed for analysis with the simulation; group organization; teacher guidance during activities
Constraints¶
- Worksheet exercises in the final part were completed in class without using PhET simulation
Target Learners¶
- 8th-grade junior high school students working in groups of four or five
Learning Goals¶
- Analyzing planetary motion, orbits, and gravity concepts
