Description¶
The article proposes a human intelligence (HI)-AI collaborative framework layered on the flipped classroom, in which AI provides "real-time information resources and support for instructional process analysis" while teachers design higher-order tasks and give in-depth feedback. Three complementary theoretical perspectives explain the observed patterns: constructivist learning theory, cognitive load theory, and the technology acceptance model (TAM). AI is positioned as a cognitive scaffold that reduces extraneous load and frees resources for instructor-led higher-order activities.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Access to free or low-cost AI tools (such as DeepSeek and Kimi) and basic digital infrastructure
- Instructor guidance rules requiring students to verify and rewrite AI outputs
Constraints¶
- Benefits may not be replicable in resource-limited settings where such tools are unavailable
- In teacher-centred systems or contexts discouraging AI reliance, implementation requires tailored adaptation and faculty development
- Tested only in a single pharmacology course with international students from South and Southeast Asia
Target Learners¶
- third-year international undergraduate medical students
Learning Goals¶
- pharmacological knowledge integration and clinical decision-making
- higher-order clinical thinking
- self-directed learning
Claims¶
- Ai Flipped Classroom Higher Response Rate [+M]
- Ai Enhancement Raises Assignment Accuracy [+M]
- Ai Flipped Boundary Deep Mastery [~M]
