Description¶
Based on more than four decades of IL courses at UMN, the article lists factors it considers key to success: the IL instructor "knows what goes on during the target content class by meeting with the faculty member weekly," ongoing professional development occurs, IL is offered only with supportive professors, outcomes are evaluated each term, targeted classes show 30 percent or more D/F/withdrawal grades, cooperative learning fosters a learning community, and efficacy reports sustain stakeholder support. Resources include a dedicated classroom, media projection, photocopying, and an instructor salary sufficient to attract graduate students with prior teaching experience.
