Description

The in situ SET course consists of nine courses, each covering one emergency theme: acute myocardial infarction, diabetic ketoacidosis, secondary shock due to acute transfusion anaphylaxis, post-operative respiratory depression combined with pulmonary edema, unplanned extubation, impulsive violence, chemotherapeutic drug extravasation, patient suicide, and acute pulmonary embolism. Each topic includes specific training goals, forms, locations, roles, core nursing skills, simulation scenarios, case settings, simulation processes, and precautions. Training uses a briefing-simulation-debriefing structure with a 3-phase guided feedback model.

Design Implications

Context

Requirements

  • An ISS training team of experienced educators guided by the INACSL Standards for Simulation
  • Real ward or outpatient clinic locations with actual clinical resources
  • Standardized patients combined with local task training models

Constraints

  • Owing to site restrictions, time constraints, and a large number of participants, each group of nurses participated in the simulation only twice

Target Learners

  • Clinical nurses with less than 5 years of work experience

Learning Goals

  • Improve clinical reasoning and first aid abilities in emergencies
  • Master emergency treatment processes for specific clinical scenarios
