Description¶
A lesson-level design pattern in which preservice teachers prepare and deliver agricultural lessons incorporating Stone et al.'s (2006) seven components of a math-enhanced lesson to their peers, who role-play as secondary students. A math-enhanced lesson is defined as "an agricultural lesson that incorporates Stone et al.’s (2006) seven components of a math-enhanced lesson". The pattern combines lesson preparation, peer micro-teaching, and observational learning through watching peers teach.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- A lecture explaining and demonstrating the seven components of a math-enhanced lesson
- Assignment of specific cross-referenced NCTM sub-standards to each preservice teacher
Constraints¶
- The authors note it is unknown whether the value lies in preparing the lessons, teaching them, participating as students, or a combination of these activities
Target Learners¶
- preservice agricultural education teachers in a teaching methods course
Learning Goals¶
- mathematics ability
- designing and delivering math-enhanced agricultural lessons
