Description¶
The article develops a mobile CT framework built on Brennan and Resnick's (2012) CT framework, redefining its three dimensions for mobile app development in mathematics. Mobile CT concepts include 'screen interface, component abstraction, public web services, data persistence, loops, conditionals, operators, and procedural abstraction'; practices add modeling and algorithmic thinking; perspectives add socializing. The framework scaffolds design and evaluation of mobile app development activities in primary mathematics lessons.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Requires a mobile app development platform such as App Inventor with block-based programming
Constraints¶
- Developed based on the App Inventor platform and primary mathematics context
Target Learners¶
- primary school students
Learning Goals¶
- computational thinking
- mathematics concepts such as area
Claims¶
- Students successfully transformed mathematical area formulas into computational representations using blockly components [+W]
- Students developed communication and collaboration skills through group-based app design [+W]
- Students developed mobile CT concepts, practices, and perspectives through app development activities [+W]
