Description¶
The New Education Model (NETM) is a "structured, theory-informed, and interactive educational intervention" grounded in Social Cognitive Theory and the Information Processing Model. Unlike passive information delivery, NETM "adopts an interactive, individualized, and feedback-oriented framework that actively engages parents in the learning process and targets the deconstruction of vaccine-related misinformation". Content covers scientific foundations of vaccination, the neonatal immunization schedule, and deconstruction of common misconceptions, delivered one-on-one with structured question-and-answer sessions and visual and written materials supported by peer-reviewed evidence. In this study it was validated by a five-expert panel and delivered individually by a trained researcher midwife and a specialist neonatologist.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Delivery by trained healthcare professionals (a trained researcher midwife and a specialist neonatologist)
- Content validated by an expert panel
- A private, distraction-free setting (a designated Parent Education Room)
Constraints¶
- Evaluated only in a NICU setting with parents self-reporting vaccine hesitancy or refusal
- Sessions lasted approximately 115 ± 11 min individually
Target Learners¶
- Parents of infants hospitalized in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
Learning Goals¶
- Reduce vaccine hesitancy and misinformation
- Improve vaccine-related attitudes and informed decision-making
Claims¶
- Netm Reduces Vaccine Hesitancy Nicu Parents [+M]
- Self-rated belief in vaccine benefit scores rose from pre-test to post-test after NETM, in one uncontrolled pre-post study [+W]
- Self-rated scores for Vaccine Opposition, Strategies to Avoid Vaccination, and Legitimation of Hesitancy decreased from pre-test to post-test in one group after NETM. [+W]
- All NICU parents in the sample were willing to receive structured, evidence-based vaccine information [+W]
