Nine methodological principles of content selection for problem-based specialized courses¶
Design · All designs
Evidence · no claims cited
Description¶
The article enumerates nine methodological principles applied while designing content for the specialized courses: goal compliance; problem/content scientific status; science-to-program ratio; instructional isomorphism; content unity; potential; minimization; national/international experience basis; and content continuity. For example, the minimization principle holds that "course content should contain the required minimum of information", and the potential principle requires units important now and in the near future. The principles were applied while designing the automotive-industry course system.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- A teacher with a broad scientific outlook on the problem
- An original methodological complex introduced with means of instructional communication (science-to-program ratio principle)
Constraints¶
- The ratio of basic knowledge to teacher-given knowledge (in some cases defined as 1:20) cannot be the same for all course units
Target Learners¶
- engineering university students
Learning Goals¶
- research competence formation through integrated course content
Claims¶
Related Designs¶
- System of specialized courses based on a single problem with professionally-oriented interdisciplinary relationships
- A cross-cutting robotics course designed around a core system of specially selected tasks spanning preschool, school and university levels
