Description¶
A replicable instructional design system with three sequenced stages and explicit interaction protocols, described by the article as having "a theoretical logic linking each element to Path 3 engagement." Stage 1 has students engage the problem fully without AI and document reasoning, securing epistemic agency and structurally preventing Paths 1 and 2. Stage 2 operationalizes Path 3 under explicit constraints: students share their Stage 1 reasoning, ask AI to challenge it, and probe responses; answers, summaries, and drafts are not permitted. Stage 3 requires metacognitive comparison of original versus AI-augmented thinking and construction of an integrated, evaluated position.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Assignments must be structured so that Path 1 and Path 2 responses are structurally non-compliant, and students must have their own documented position before AI contact
Constraints¶
- The article states formal evaluation of the campus-wide initiative is beyond the scope of the paper, and a controlled comparison of scaffolded and unscaffolded conditions remains to be run
Target Learners¶
- undergraduate students in higher education
Learning Goals¶
- Strategic Dialogue engagement
- metacognitive evaluation
- epistemic agency
