Design · All designs
Evidence · no claims cited
Description¶
The intervention combines several recurring design features: highly prescribed scripted lessons with specified feedback and prompting; mastery criteria that allow skipping additional lessons once the whole group meets criteria; individualized flashcard fact practice whose "difficulty of the flashcards increased with the skill of individual student"; and a positive-reinforcement behavior system awarding points for accomplishment, mastery, and randomly timed engagement checks, with small rewards roughly every two sessions.
Design Implications¶

- A screening procedure to identify at-risk students before assignment to groups
Constraints¶
- Fact practice difficulty is independent of the group's progression through the lessons
Target Learners¶
- Grade 1 students at risk for mathematics difficulties in Tier 2 RtI settings
