Description¶
The online TPACK learning trajectory organizes professional learning around two tools and two processes within a social metacognitive constructivist framework. As printed, "Two tools support the online professional development: (1) a community of learners and (2) reflection," supporting social and cognitive presence; the two key processes are shared/individual knowledge development and inquiry learning, in which learners move between group and individual knowledge-building and investigate worthy questions. Reflection happens through reflective essays, peer reviews, and online portfolios.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Establishing a community of learners to support communication and interaction in the asynchronous online environment
- Critical reflection activities such as reflective essays, peer review, and portfolios
Constraints¶
- The primarily asynchronous nature of online learning poses additional challenges for the design of these educational experiences
Target Learners¶
- in-service mathematics teachers in graduate online courses
Learning Goals¶
- reframing teacher knowledge for teaching mathematics with technologies
- knowledge-building through inquiry and discourse
