Description¶
PBPT is a training approach for high-volume, high-risk technical and non-technical skills in which trainees receive precise feedback proximate to performance and "a quantitative performance benchmark to work towards" that "should be a valid representation of the procedure". It requires learners to practice until the benchmark is unambiguously demonstrated, relying on a comprehensive quantitative characterisation of the skill. In this study PBPT principles underpinned the six-stage development of the ANTT wound-dressing observational metric, whose metrics and operational definitions offer specific goals for a training curriculum.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- A valid observational metric that quantitatively characterises the procedure, with operationally defined steps and errors, so feedback can delineate deviation from optimal performance
Constraints¶
Target Learners¶
- trainee health care professionals learning acute surgical wound-dressing procedures
Learning Goals¶
- proficient performance of aseptic non-touch technique during acute surgical wound dressings
