Description

RELEX operationalizes personalized example-based feedback through five interface functionalities: F1 an Analyze button requesting feedback and new examples on demand; F2 a better, similar recipe retrieved per learner; F3 colored highlighting of missing structure, clarity, and specificity aspects; F4 short, deletable explanation tips on highlighted elements; and F5 a Reflection Space prompting self-explanation and comparison. "The five design functionalities of RELEX (see Table 1) are based on design requirements derived from user interviews as well as from literature."

Design Implications

Context

Requirements

  • Each functionality must trace to at least one user requirement (U1-U5 from ten user interviews) or literature requirement (L1-L5 from example-based learning design principles)

Constraints

  • Explanations should be short and minimalist and should not tell learners things they already know, per the cited design principles

Target Learners

  • Learners writing procedural texts, including culinary students and study participants aged 18-30

Learning Goals

  • Improving structure, clarity, and specificity of procedural texts through active example processing

Claims

  • Relex Personalized Example System
