Description

The students-as-partners (SaP) framework positions students and staff in a "collaborative, reciprocal process through which all participants have the opportunity to contribute equally, although not necessarily in the same ways, to curricular or pedagogical conceptualization, decision-making, implementation, investigation, or analysis". The article applies SaP values of respect, reciprocity, and shared responsibility to co-creating custom GPTs, arguing that co-creation with GenAI can extend the SaP paradigm to include GenAI tools, with students as co-creators rather than passive users or risks.

Design Implications

Context

Requirements

  • Students and academics engage as equal partners in decision-making with shared responsibility, reciprocity, and mutual learning

Constraints

  • Co-design does not make all expertise identical: students contribute learner expertise while academics verify disciplinary accuracy and pedagogical appropriateness

Target Learners

  • undergraduate science students

Learning Goals

  • digital literacies and critical understanding of AI
  • partnership-driven learning and reflexivity
