Description¶
From a preliminary study with four education experts, the authors derived six design requirements (R1-R6) categorized by three analysis objects: the course concept, the student group, and the individual student. The Concept category analyzes attention from the course structure for rapid screening and preliminary attribution; the Group category focuses on temporal attention trends and audiovisual instructional design; and the Individual category centers on "each student's detailed attention trajectory and audiovisual attention allocation." The decomposition matches the experts' agreed top-down workflow from overall course structure to specific causes of attention fluctuations.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Accurate extraction of concepts and their relationships as a prerequisite for helping teachers review the overall course structure
Constraints¶
- Group aggregated results may mask individual differences, as attention patterns observed at the group level may not hold consistently across individual students
Target Learners¶
- teachers and course instructors analyzing pilot-cohort attention data
Learning Goals¶
- locating low-engagement segments and diagnosing audiovisual instructional design deficiencies in instructional videos
Claims¶
- Two case studies and expert interviews with six experts demonstrated SAVVY's effectiveness and usability for identifying attention variations and supporting video optimization [+M] — the evaluation of the system built to these requirements
Related Designs¶
- Savvy Visual Analytics System
- SAVVY interactive visual analytics system — the system these requirements were derived for
