Spaced repetition of drugs and drug classes across multiple cases and courses over a 15-month pre-clerkship curriculum¶

Description¶
The integrated curriculum spreads the drug list across the first 2 years so that commonly prescribed drugs recur in multiple cases and disease states. "The number of instances these commonly prescribed drugs appear in the curriculum allows for spaced repetition." For example, methyl-prednisolone appears in 12 of the 72 cases and aspirin in 10. Content is delivered as multiple short videos of 10–15 minutes rather than one long video, which the authors say helps students organize and digest information and eases faculty editing when drug information changes.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Case and course sequencing across 15 months that deliberately re-encounters the same drugs in different disease contexts
Constraints¶
- Applies to pharmacology content within an integrated pre-clerkship medical curriculum
Target Learners¶
- Pre-clerkship medical students
Learning Goals¶
- Retention of drug classes, mechanisms, and indications across disease states
