Description

Each SPARK tutoring session follows a standardized lesson plan template of five research-based literacy activities: a Familiar activity reviewing a recently learned skill; Word Play providing targeted, differentiated instruction on foundational reading skills through Word Sorts and Making Words; reading at the instructional level with tutor-assisted leveled books and book walks; Running Records every second or third lesson to track progress independent of tutor assistance; and Writing using Elkonin boxes to encode words. The lesson ends with students hearing their tutor read aloud fluently and with expression.
