Description

A lesson-level design pattern within SRSD for narrative writing: students are first trained to identify the important parts of a story (characters, time, place, trigger, events, denouement, resolution) across texts, then use that knowledge to build a schema-driven planning strategy for their own stories. "Students are taught to structure their planning sheets with a graphic organizer, which is expected to help them generate and organize their ideas during a planning phase to help them write higher-quality stories." The planning sheet offers a series of subgoals and supports retrieving ideas from long-term memory.

Design Implications
