Description

SSCS is described as "one of the cooperative learning models based on problem solving" with the syntax of Pizzini and Separdson (1992). In this study the metacognitive strategy was implemented by "adding the intervention of researcher in the form of underlining technique in the phase of search and self-assessing at the end of share phase." The authors argue the integration lets students monitor their learning and adapt, fostering self-regulated, independent learning that develops creative thinking.

Design Implications

Context

Requirements

  • Requires the SSCS problem-solving syntax with researcher-added underlining in the search phase and self-assessing at the end of the share phase

Constraints

  • Studied only with tenth-grade natural science classes in three Kupang schools over one semester on biodiversity, virus, protista and monera content

Target Learners

  • tenth-grade students of low and high academic ability in senior high school

Learning Goals

  • creative thinking ability
  • self-regulated learning
