Description¶
The article describes a battery administered to 87 summoned students to probe factors behind intelligence–scholarship discrepancy. It included "a modification of the Downey will-profile test" in which a phrase was written at normal, rapid, and slow rates to yield tension and perseverance quotients; an abbreviated Rosanoff, Martin, and Rosanoff High Standard Frequency Test scored by agreement with responses of 100 eminent men of science; and three story-based deletion tests for fear, sex, and aggression, with the aggression time divided by total time of the three tests.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Requires subjects able to write at normal, rapid, and slow rates for the Downey-derived quotients
- Requires the normative response distribution of a group of 100 eminent men of science for scoring the frequency test
Constraints¶
- The aggression timing measure's intended arousal effects were reportedly not achieved according to subjects' introspections
Target Learners¶
- male college students (Dartmouth class of 1924)
Learning Goals¶
- measuring non-intellective factors related to the disparity between intelligence test performance and scholarship grades
Claims¶
- Instinct Story Tests Failed Arousal Introspections [~M]
- Rosanoff Frequency Test Diverges Between Discrepancy Groups [+M]
