Description

A digital-tablet single-word dictation task used to dissociate spelling from graphomotor performance. Children wrote 40 words whose "target words varied in orthographic complexity and in graphic complexity (simple vs. difficult)", and the task "was scored on spelling accuracy, handwriting quality and handwriting speed", allowing group comparisons across both complexity dimensions simultaneously.

Design Implications

Context

Requirements

  • Administered on a digital tablet so handwriting quality and speed can be scored
  • Word set must vary in both orthographic complexity and graphic complexity

Constraints

Target Learners

  • monolingual French-speaking children with and without dyslexia

Learning Goals

  • assessing spelling accuracy, handwriting quality and handwriting speed
