Targeted soft skill profile per specialisation represented as kiviat-style thresholds

Description

A targeted soft skill profile is the ensemble of minimum expected proficiency targets for each soft skill, defined per program specialisation and represented as polygons of 10 sides (kiviat diagrams) showing the targeted threshold per skill. The article proposes it because demanded soft skills "may vary between degrees or specialisations", so different specialisations can carry distinct profiles. In the implementation, profiles were set to the students' average proficiency at stage 2 per specialisation.

Design Implications

Context

Requirements

  • Determination of the profile requires thorough debate with program stakeholders (teachers, labour market representatives, alumni, current students, the HEI)

Constraints

  • The profiles used in the illustration were chosen for simplicity as students' average proficiency, and the article acknowledges profile determination is a study by itself

Target Learners

  • students in specialisation years of an engineering program

Learning Goals

  • meeting specialisation-specific minimum soft skill proficiency targets
