Telediscussion course pattern alternating telelectures with discussion sessions¶

Description¶
The seminar's structure paired each expert telelecture with a discussion session about it. Of twenty class sessions, "Eight of these class sessions were devoted to telelectures, eight were discussionperiods about the telelecture, one was an introductorylecture," plus a site visit and examinations. Pre-lecture literature sent by each telelecturer gave the eleven students time to peruse it before the lecture, and Tuesday sessions discussed that literature before Thursday telelectures.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Telelecturers supply relevant literature well in advance so students can read it before the telelecture.
Constraints¶
- Time limitations in a quarter system made interspersing classroom theory lectures difficult, according to the article.
Target Learners¶
- graduate students in library science
Target Goals¶
- understanding information retrieval systems and projects
