Description

The thinksheet is a three-step worksheet modified from the WIRC project's thinksheet (Englert & Raphael, 1989) to suit ELL students. Step 1 asks students to read a chunk of the story, identify one or two important ideas, and paraphrase the main ideas. Step 2 asks students to select the most important ideas and reflect on them. Step 3 asks students to write a summary and reflection. An additional worksheet called a questionsheet was created for this study, providing students with space to work cooperatively on their questions about vocabulary, grammar, and the story. The worksheets serve as a cognitive model while students read and write, helping each other achieve both "process goals" and "content goals."
