Three-dimensional structural model of social interaction behaviors (goal, interactive, and task structure)

Design · All designs

Description

The article adopts a three-dimensional structural model for dissecting social interaction behaviors, "delineating it into goal structure (cooperation versus competition), interactive structure (synchronous versus turn-based), and task structure (interdependent versus independent)". The study fixes goal structure at cooperation and interactive structure at synchronous, and varies the task-structure subdimension by contrasting high and low task interdependence within cooperation key-pressing tasks. The model thus provides the design axis along which the experimental tasks were refined.

Design Implications

Context

Requirements

  • Prior three-dimensional SIB conceptualization (Liu & Pelowski) is used to classify tasks along the three structures

Constraints

  • The study examines only the cooperative, synchronous, interdependent subdimensions

Target Learners

  • cooperating dyads (college students)

Learning Goals

  • cooperative behavior and inter-brain coordination
