Description

A structured training program of "a three hours of theoretical and practical instruction" designed by two emergency medicine specialists based on ATLS, TCCC and Stop the Bleed frameworks. It comprised one hour of theoretical instruction and two hours of hands-on practical sessions with a 1:1 instructor-to-participant ratio, using the FR19 extremity tourniquet, improvised tourniquets, and the SAM Junctional Tourniquet on arm task trainers and full-body manikins.

Design Implications

Context

Requirements

  • One-on-one simulation-based training with immediate corrective feedback
  • Independent raters separate from training instructors for assessment

Constraints

  • Assessors were not fully blinded to study phase, introducing residual risk of observer bias

Target Learners

  • medical interns during emergency medicine rotation

Learning Goals

  • extremity and junctional tourniquet application
  • hemorrhage control knowledge and confidence
