Description

The article adopts the account that learning in virtual worlds, called "immersive learning", rests on three factors: "Imagination, immersion and interaction seem to be important factors for immersive learning." Immersion is described as the degree to which individuals perceive interacting more with the virtual than the real environment, determined by representation of the learners, presence and possibilities of interaction. The framework is used to situate the VR mathematics unit as an immersive learning environment with high interaction.

Design Implications

Context

Requirements

  • The learning environment must provide real-time visualizations and reactions giving users immediate feedback on their inputs, with multimodal information recording

Constraints

  • The support of immersion on learning processes via flow and presence is presented as a thesis, and the same effects are also discussed in the context of computer game addiction

Target Learners

  • elementary and secondary school learners

Learning Goals

  • mathematics learning (measures and masses) through immersive VR
