Three-level creative tasks with assistance cards for mini investigations in physics laboratory work

Design · All designs

Description

Within each laboratory work, creative tasks for mini investigations were developed at three levels of difficulty and presented in methodological guidelines for students' independent work under control. First-level tasks are most difficult and only specify the problem; second-level tasks keep the problem but add clues such as a limited range of devices and materials and outlined ways of performance; the third level is maximally simplified with more tips while retaining creativity elements. Individual tasks are provided with assistance cards containing a pre-arranged question, scheme, pattern or formula. The stated main purpose is development of experimental research competencies of all undergraduate students regardless of their abilities.

Design Implications

Context

Requirements

  • Assistance cards must narrow potentialities to find a solution without giving a direct answer

Constraints

  • The pattern was implemented within the laboratory workshop of the general physics course at pedagogical universities

Target Learners

  • undergraduate physics students

Learning Goals

  • experimental research competencies
  • creativity
  • independent experimental work

Claims
