Description

A symptom-oriented, pathway-based clerkship teaching program that constructs a repeatable diagnostic and management pathway with hematuria as the main thread. Its core idea was to encourage closed-loop competence from symptom to decision through modular training, and constantly correct learning deviations by means of formative assessment and feedback in real time. Four consecutive weekly modules covered risk stratification, test strategy and interpretation, safe management/referral decisions, and structured case presentation with modified OSCE evaluation, supported by checklists and decision cards.

Design Implications

Context

Requirements

  • Same senior teacher uniformly designed and led key components across cohorts to ensure implementation consistency

Constraints

  • Delivered by a single senior teacher, so pathway-design benefits cannot be separated from teacher expertise and enthusiasm
  • Single-center, single-theme module with follow-up only to the end of rotation

Target Learners

  • Urology clerkship students

Learning Goals

  • Clinical reasoning and risk stratification in hematuria management
  • Safe management and referral decisions in high-risk scenarios
  • Risk communication and follow-up planning
