Description¶
Fading scaffolding is the element in which supports such as hints, prompts, or models are progressively reduced so that learners take on more of the task independently. It is useful when learners need a designed bridge from guided performance to independence.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- A scaffold that can be reduced across attempts
- Evidence of learner readiness for less support
Constraints¶
- Reducing support too quickly can destabilize performance
Target Learning Goals¶
- Increase independence while preserving successful performance.
