Description

ASPIRE is an authoring system and deployment environment developed for creating constraint-based intelligent tutors with domain models, student modelling, adaptive feedback, and problem selection.

Components

  • ASPIRE constraint-based tutor authoring process applied to a procedural AR assembly task: ASPIRE is an authoring system and deployment environment for constraint-based tutors. For MAT the authors followed the standard ASPIRE procedure with no changes to the authoring system: describing task characteristics (an 18-step procedural assembly task), composing a domain ontology of 14 concepts with properties and relationships, specifying problem/solution structures (with multiple correct solutions accepted where several configurations are valid), and generating a domain model of 275 constraints. ASPIRE-Tutor then performs student modelling, feedback and problem selection, matching every student action to constraints and providing progressively more detailed feedback as the student struggles.
