Description

A peer-assisted instructional programme in which students tutor one another in structured pairs with immediate feedback, practice, and reinforcement, developed for integration with existing curricula.

Components

  • ClassWide Peer Tutoring (CWPT) program for beginning reading: CWPT is a peer-assisted instructional strategy designed to be integrated with most existing reading curricula, in which pairs of students take turns tutoring each other with immediate feedback, reinforcing skills initially taught by the teacher. It is "practiced 30 minutes a day throughout the week, including 20 minutes for tutoring and 10 minutes for material preparation," with weekly individual testing and pretesting. Students are paired into two teams, award points for correct answers, and the team with the most points is announced daily and recognized each Friday.
