Description¶
A standardized school assessment developed by Pressey and normed for interpreting pupils' scores across grades and ages.
Components¶
- Grade and age norms for the Cross-out scale based on about 4,000 cases: First norms for the final form of the scale: median scores for each of the four tests by grade (3 through 12) and by age (9 through 18), derived from surveys of three Indiana cities totalling "about 4,000 cases" across three revisions. Grade norms are accompanied by median ages so schools with different age-grade distributions can be compared fairly by adjusting scores by half the inter-age interval. (Pressey (1920))
Claims¶
- Group-scale scores correlate moderately with teachers' ability rankings of first- to third-grade pupils [+W]
- School surveys with the scale found clear-cut group differences between sections, schools, and institutional children [+W]
- Partial and multiple correlation show the last two tests contribute most and the tests are fairly well selected [+W]
- The scale differentiates pupil material between schools in neighborhoods of different character [+W]
