Description

Emotiv's wireless EEG headset and Affectiv Suite software measure affective states such as engagement, excitement, frustration, and meditation during activities.

Components

  • Emotiv EPOC headset Affectiv Suite engagement measure: The Emotiv EPOC is a wireless brain computer interface device recording EEG through 14 electrodes; its Affectiv Suite provides real-time detection of emotional state including engagement, excitement, frustration and meditation. The article operationalises engagement as "the engagement measure provided by the Affectiv Suite of the Emotiv EPOC headset", citing third-party validation studies showing reliable engagement and excitement measures. It was chosen after a comparative review rated it highest in usefulness for research among low-cost EEG equipment. (Ghergulescu et al. (2016))
