Description

A year-long professional development programme run by educational consultants and school-based project coaches to develop primary teachers' competency in differentiated mathematics instruction through team meetings, coaching, lesson observation, and school-level implementation planning.

Components

  • GROW teacher professional development programme for differentiated mathematics instruction: The GROW PD programme is a multi-component, year-long professional development intervention designed following characteristics of effective teacher PD from the literature. It consisted of three main components: PD for all teachers (ten three-hour team meetings across the schoolyear, six led by educational consultants and four by school-based project coaches, using interactive lectures, practical exercises, and adapted Lesson Study), additional training for internal project coaches (five regional meetings, coaching and lesson-observation duties, follow-up and train-the-trainer packages), and active involvement of the principal (intake meetings, intervision meetings, a school-level implementation plan). Materials were organised as a toolbox so schools could adapt the focus to their needs. (Prast et al. (2018))
