Description¶
WestEd's How I Know project framework provides five synergistic practices for school leaders guiding formative-assessment implementation and scaling.
Components¶
- Five-practice framework for leading formative assessment implementation: The brief presents a leadership framework (Exhibit 1) of five synergistic practices for guiding formative assessment implementation: "fostering understanding of formative assessment; communicating a compelling vision...; modeling a culture of learning...; leading site-based professional learning...; and nurturing the conditions necessary for the changes associated with implementing and scaling formative assessment." It was derived from WestEd's site observations and leadership coaching at 12 school campuses in three urban districts during the How I Know project (2017–2020). The practices are described as operating "synergistically to support and strengthen the learning and mindset shifts needed by teachers and their students." (Gerzon et al. (2020))
