Description¶
A statewide California teacher-led professional learning initiative run by the Stanford Center for Opportunity Policy in Education, the California Teachers Association, and the National Board Resource Center to develop teacher leadership and support instructional shifts.
Components¶
- The ILC 'teachers teaching teachers' model of teacher-led, systemically connected professional learning: The ILC is a statewide collaborative in which expert teachers, trained through statewide and regional conferences, organize local professional development to spark iterative changes in practice. Its "purposeful approach" of "teachers teaching teachers" empowers teachers to lead sustainable professional development and advance instructional capacity within their districts. The model replaces one-shot outside-consultant workshops with ongoing, locally led learning, and its theory of action resonates with Jaquith's framework for enhancing instructional capacity, which calls for opportunities to develop professional knowledge, resources, recognition of instructional expertise, and organizational structures supporting collaboration and trust. (Lotan et al. (2019))
Claims¶
